April 2008 Commemoration Plaque Last year Murray Taylor on behalf of the Association initiated the necessary steps for the process of applying for a grant under the Federal Government’s “Saluting their Service” program. The culmination of the project will be the dedication and unveiling of a Commemorative Plaque to the Unit at the Australian War Memorial. Presently, we are waiting for a reply in the affirmative to our application, once this is approved then final plans for a ceremony at the Australian War Memorial will be conveyed to all members and friends of the Association. Remembrance Day Sunday
11th November 2007 For the rest of the news click on Newsletter link on the right June 2007 Reserve Forces Day March, Sunday 1st July2007. This year form up point will be on the eastern side of College Street Hyde Park North at 1045hrs, with a march down Macquarie Street. Marchers will disperse on the march at the end of Macquarie Street, with members of the association then retiring to the NSW Leagues Club for a social drink. As for last years march, Public Transport (Government Buses and trains) is free for participants in this year’s march, providing you are wearing beret/medals. Train travel covers areas from Scone in the north, to Moss Vale in the southwest, to Lithgow in the west and to Nowra in the south. Members, who would normally use private bus companies, will need to check if free travel is available with that particular bus company. In previous years the travel has been free. Suggested dress is, navy blue
jacket, grey trousers, and beret and for those who have them, RAASC/RACT
Corps tie. For the rest of the news click on Newsletter link on the right December 2006 It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of Ted Jocelyn. Ted died on 19th December 20006 after a very short battle with cancer. Ted was a long serving member of 3Transport at Ashfield and 12 Coy at Marrickville reaching the rank of Captain before going to New Zealand to further his civilian career. On behalf of the Association I have passed onto Ted’s family in New Zealand our condolence’s and arranged for a wreath for his funeral service.
The Association has also been informed through other associations/communications of the passing of Lofty Jesse and the inclusion of Tom Nicol on the “Sick Parade List”. Both are ex Cadre staff of 3 Coy.
On a brighter note Stewart Brown has received a long awaited Kidney transplant and from all reports Stewart is progressing to everyone’s expectations.
Wishing everyone the best for the season and the New Year, June 2006 Firstly, to our Patron Michael Miller I belatedly pass on the Association’s congratulations on his promotion to Colonial and also thank him for a job well done in leading the Association on both ANZAC Sunday and ANZAC Day. · Ashfield RSL Sub-Branch Anzac Sunday (Sunday 23 April 2006) More than twenty members of the Association participated in the Sunday memorial service at Ashfield Park and then after the service formed up behind the Association’s Banner to march back to the RSL Club. Serving members of the 3 Tpt Coy RACT provided the catafalque party. After the march members of
the Association and 3 Tpt Coy RACT, adjourned to the RSL Club to enjoy
food and liquid nutriment for several hours, which was provided by the
club. Anzac Day (Tuesday 25Apr2006) On the following Tuesday twenty four members of the Association once again formed up behind the banner but this time for the Sydney Anzac Day march. The Association Banner again this year was ably carried by two students from Ashfield Boys’ High School. The association again looked
quite conspicuous with most members wearing the RAASC or RACT Tie and
displaying on their blazers the RAASC or RACT Pocket. On behalf of the committee I would like to thank all those members who attended both days, especially those members from outer metropolitan areas and interstate. Our next get together will be Reserve Forces Day on the 2nd July 2006, I urge all members who can, to attend this event. The parade this year will celebrate and acknowledge: · The service of Reservists
and Civilians who have served overseas on our Nation’s behalf

Public Officer: Kevin Connelly ANZAC Celebrations: The tradition is being carried on with the Unit providing the catafalque party for the Ashfield RSL Sub-Branch Anzac Day. Again this year the committee hopes that members of the Association are able to give their support were possible in attending either or both the Ashfield RSL Sub-Branch Anzac Sunday Commemoration (April 23) and the Sydney Anzac Day March. Once again I would like to remind all of you that if you are not a member of any RSL Sub Branch, that as former defence personnel and with 6 months or more service, you are eligible to be a member of a Sub Branch. All you need to do is attend the sub branch of your choice, present your discharge papers (obtain copy from CARO in Melbourne). Finally, if you know of any former members of the Unit who are not members of the Association invite them along to the Association’s functions and give them the Secretary’s address or a copy of the attached “Membership Form”. Anzac Day Sunday, 23rd April 2006
November 2005 Annual General Meeting. The Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday 4 November 2005 in the Sub Branch rooms Ashfield RSL Club 374 Liverpool Road Ashfield at 1930hrs. As with previous years the Association has arranged for finger food to be served during the AGM. All members are encouraged to attend. Remembrance Day Sunday 6th November 2005 Ashfield Sub Branch, as in previous years, has again invited the Association to attend the Sub Branch’s Service to commemorate Remembrance Day. This service will be held at the Ashfield RSL Club and will commence at 1045hrs. Refreshments will be served after the service. All members are encouraged to attend and support the Sub Branch. April 2005 3 Transport Association was again represented at Ashfield RSL on Anzac Sunday - 24 April. The Calaflaque Party and commander were provided by current members of 3 Company and wreaths were laid by the current OC Maj James Beaton, and on behalf of the Association, by our Patron, Lt Col. Michael Miller. After the march back to the club a dint was made in some beverages and some tucker laid on by the club. Then . . . we all backed up and did it all again the next day. Now that's commitment. Current members drove 13 Land Rovers around the March circuit two or even three times. They also marched with the Service Corps helping them with their banner. Association Members marched under our banner and then had a rest at the Shark Hotel and had a few sherbets.
Old News November 2004 An Invitation has been received
by the Association from Ashfield Boys’ High inviting us to attend
the dedication of the memorials which have been erected on the site of
the Ashfield Drill Hall. 1. Naming ALL Units who occupied the site from 1914 to 1973 2. 3 Coy RAASC 1963 to 1973 3. To the “men on the Coo-ee march” who stayed in the depot overnight. It would be great to see as many members as possible in attendance for this dedication. 15 November 10am for 10:30am in the School Hall |
